Two women. Red threads. Infinite reimagining.
It all began with a bracelet.
Five years ago, during one of the most difficult chapters of my life, my dear friend Fiona Johnson, affectionately known as Fi, gave me a simple red thread bracelet.
She wore one too.
In many traditions, the red thread symbolises fate, protection and enduring bonds. For us, it became something deeply personal. A reminder that even in the hardest seasons, we are never truly alone.
The bracelets were meant to be worn until they were no longer needed.
Years later, we're both still wearing ours.
Little did we know that those red threads would eventually inspire a creative collaboration of our own.
Two women. One creative vision.
Fi is a mixed-media artist, a rebel and a self-confessed magpie, forever drawn to unexpected treasures, interesting textures and beautiful imperfections.
I'm a stylist, photographer and lifelong creative with a love of fashion, individuality and transforming the ordinary into something extraordinary.
Together, we share a fascination with reinvention and a belief that beautiful things deserve more than one chapter.
And so, Red Thread Redux was born.
Redux (pronounced ree-DUKS) means brought back, restored or reimagined.
It was the perfect name for what we wanted to create.
We began with pre-loved jackets, using them as our canvas for artistic expression. Masculine tailoring met feminine embellishment. Hand-painted graffiti mixed with embroidery, lace, leopard print, unexpected fabrics and decorative details.
Our different creative styles came together in an eclectic mix of romance, rebellion and a little attitude.
No two jackets were ever intended to be alike. Each evolved through experimentation, instinct and the joy of making something entirely our own.
A jacket with a past. A woman with a future.
At the heart of Red Thread Redux was something that went beyond fashion.
The belief that what has been overlooked can be loved again.
What has been discarded can be reimagined.
What has a past can still have a future.
And so can she.
There's something rather wonderful about taking a garment that has already lived one life and giving it an entirely new identity.
Not erasing its history, but adding another chapter.
We wanted to create pieces that celebrated individuality, creativity and the freedom to dress without following anyone else's rules.
Jackets with personality. Pieces that make you feel something.
The red thread that connects it all.
Throughout our designs, the red thread became a recurring signature, appearing in contrasting stitches, embroidered crosses and hand-worked details.
A little reminder of where it all began.
For us, it represented friendship, connection, resilience and second chances.
Our collaboration brought together two women, two distinct creative styles and a shared love of making something beautiful from the unexpected.
The result is a limited collection of one-of-a-kind jackets, individually created using a combination of reclaimed and new materials.
Although our collaboration has now come to its natural conclusion, the pieces we created together carry the story of that friendship and a very special creative chapter.
And now they're ready for their next adventure, with women who will make them entirely their own.
A jacket with a past. A woman with a future.
The Red Thread Redux jackets are available exclusively through Amanda Starr Couture, while the collection lasts.
